Mary Ashton Ellis is a freelance music photographer based in Los Angeles. She is the creative director of Hostage magazine, a bi-annual music photography magazine releasing in 35 countries this fall.
The under 25 ‘One to Watch’ has photographed some of the biggest names in music including Aerosmith, Pharrell, Jane's Addiction, The Last Shadow Puppets, Rhianna, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, The 1975, The Neighborhood, Fall Out Boy, Tinie Tempah, James Bay, Charlie XCX, Imagine Dragons, Bastille, Marina & the Diamonds, Bring Me The Horizon, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Borns, Saint Raymond, Angel Haze, Paul Oakenfold, The Script, and Glass Animals.
It’s all about access. Mary Ashton is granted VIP admission to just about every major music event across the UK and the USA, both front-of-house and backstage. Glastonbury, Coachella, Isle of Wight, Lollapalooza– Ashton is there, behind-the-scenes and behind the lens, her images perfectly capturing the defining moments of each performance.
Mary Ashton’s work has appeared in magazines such as Wonderland, So It Goes, Tirade, Noctis, Candid and FMS. She has collaborated with Sony Music, MTV, Raindance Film Festival and the British Fashion Council.
